 >> View LUCE collections on EFG Cinecittà Luce is a public company that works as an operative arm of the Ministry of Culture for the Italian film industry. It is the result of the merging of Cinecittà Holding and Istituto Luce, the latter being the first state film company in Europe, founded in 1924. Cinecittà Luce's activities range from Italian film and documentary production, cultural and commercial promotion of Italian films at festivals and events around the world, and other film related activities.

One of the most important pillars of Cinecittà Luce's heritage and activities is Istituto Luce's Historical Film and Photo Archive made up of numerous collections of newsreels and documentaries in more than 150'000 titles ranging from the beginnings of cinema to our days, and some three million photos, covering different events from the 1920s to the 1970s. The archive is constantly engaged in cataloguing and digitization and hundreds of thousands of films and photos are available online for free at www.archivioluce.com.

For the exceptional cultural and historical value of its film heritage, the Italian UNESCO Committee has nominated Istituto Luce's Historical Archive as the only 2011 Italian candidate to the prestigious "UNESCO Memory of the World Register". >> www.cinecitta.com
